Professional Statement

Dr. Christopher Obwaka is on a mission to play his part in the elimination of maternal mortality on the African continent. His passion stems from his natural affinity and love for obstetrics and gynaecology, the immense value he places on human life and the critical role he believes mothers play in the world right from conception. Beyond playing a key role in the elimination of maternal mortality by the provision of personalized, well researched and outstanding healthcare, his vision is to have every mother leave the health facility happy and with a healthy baby in her hands.

Dr. Obwaka has led countless deliveries to date and remains very focused on the target of achieving zero maternal mortality and zero avoidable stillbirths for all patients under his care. This achievement is a demonstration of Dr. Obwaka’s attention to detail and level of precision in diagnosing his patients. It is also a strong indication of his passion in ensuring an amazing patient experience even in extremely complex and emergency cases including placenta previa complications, multiple births, excessive bleeding, severe pre-eclampsia among others.

His approach is geared towards setting mothers up for success in having natural deliveries taking into consideration all factors that would drive better outcomes for both mother and baby as well as carefully evaluating risks to ensuretheir safety.

Dr. Obwaka has already achieved an admirable and rare fete having successfully delivered triplets naturally. He has also uncovered misdiagnosis in some patients and put them on the right track to recovery due to the rigor he applies in the diagnosis process and the multidisciplinary approach he deploys by roping in other medical practitioners from different specialties when the need for further expertise is required.

Dr. Obwaka is intentional about educating women on how to take a proactive approach in managing their reproductive health in a bid to reduce mortality. He has been featured in various media where he gives women a platform to engage and ask questions on reproductive health.

He holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, and graduated with a distinction in his Master of Medicine in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from the University of Nairobi. He is currently pursuing his MBA in Health Leadership and Management from the United States International University (USIU-Africa) and is well on his way to becoming a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (MRCOG-UK).

Dr. Obwaka is a regular contributor for the East African Medical Journal (EAMJ) and the Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology of East and Central Africa (JOGECA) and has documented multiple policy documents and scientific papers.
