Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

A kidney transplant gives you about 10 to 15 years longer than staying on dialysis.

Waiting for a deceased donor kidney usually takes several years. It would be best to consider a living kidney donation from family or friends, which shortens the waiting period.

You will stay in the hospital for 4 to 6 days if you receive a living donor transplant and 6 to 10 days for a deceased donor.

You will be required to take anti-rejection medications and have frequent blood testing in the first three months after transplantation and regular testing after that.

You can go back to school or work within 2-3 months, although this depends on your recovery, work, and other medical conditions.

Recurrence can happen with some kidney transplant patients, but it is rare. You will receive post-transplant care to help prevent a recurrence.

The life expectancy of a living donor is 20-25 years, compared to the life expectancy of a kidney transplant from a deceased donor, which is 15-20 years.

After recovery, your dedicated Kidney Transplant support specialist will be there to assist you with your travel arrangements back home and any follow-up care you may need after.
We're with you every step of the way!
